Did you have a specific theme or style in mind for your wedding and or outfit, and how did you incorporate it into your final choice?

I wanted to find something timeless and luxurious that helped me still feel like me. I didn’t want to be in a big gown and never envisioned sparkles or frills. I’d been researching online for about a month and when I found the Cindy dress I knew it was the one – I bought it 18 months before the wedding, I think even before the venue was confirmed.

Were there any unexpected challenges or surprises you encountered while searching for your dream wedding outfit?

The dress was both a wonderful surprise and an unexpected challenge. I bought it online and waited patiently while it shipped to Australia. And it fit perfectly! I felt like it was fate.

However – I lost a bit of weight before the wedding (all from my chest – no!) so seven days before the wedding my incredible tailor, Isabel, and I worked together to incorporate lace into the neckline and a matching trim on the sleeves. I love that I personalised it to me and my body, and I felt incredible in it.

Did you have any sentimental or personal elements incorporated into your wedding outfit, and what made them special to you?

I wore a set of hand-crafted gold flowers from Lelet NY with two pins in my hair and the dramatic matching earrings. The set originally came with 3 hair pins, and it was lovely to gift my mum the third pin to wear in her hair on the wedding day. A month before the wedding I spotted a handbag from an Australian brand that matched perfectly and tied the whole thing together.

If you could describe your wedding theme in three words, what would they be?

Delicious – getting married at the best restaurant in Australia was a dream come true. For us – it was all about the food! All the food served was either grown on site (in the very garden we got married in) or sourced locally.

Tasmanian – even though the outfit was curated from all over the globe, the day of was all about honouring our incredible state. We had the most incredible Tasmanian vendors and artists, food, wines, and flowers.

Intimate – we had only 49 guests which was the perfect size for us. It was a special privilege to have them all together in the same room. The wedding was as much a celebration of us as it was of our village – all the people who support and love us.

Are there any special or personalized touches you're adding to make your wedding truly reflect your personality as a couple?

Our cats, Basil and Sage, are our family and we wanted them to be a part of the day. Alex from the Agrarian Kitchen worked with us to create two absolutely delicious custom cocktails – The Basil & Strawberry Spritz and the Sage & Apple Collins. The absolute cherry on top is our planner, Bek, crafted a beautiful bar sign with drawings of our kitties! I think I screamed when I saw it on the day – it now hangs in the house.

Are there any particular wedding trends or traditions that you intentionally decided to skip or do differently?

We decided to do an exchange of private vows before the ceremony and I’m so glad – it was one of our favourite moments of the day. Daniel met me at the hotel, we had a first look just the two of us, and exchanged speeches we’d written for each other. Our venue was thirty minutes from the city, so we got almost an hour together on the way there to connect and calm down.

Given we’d exchanged private speeches before the ceremony, we had decided to write shared vows with our amazing celebrant Maria Bond. This was such a beautiful moment of the day – repeating to each other our shared commitment.

This set up also meant we got to walk down the aisle together which kept us both grounded in the moment.

What was the most memorable part of your wedding ceremony for you and your partner?

We had an incredible harpist, Emily Sanzaro, play through the ceremony and cocktail hour. We walked down the aisle together to Kiss from a Rose by Seal, and my best friend of 27 years (also an accomplished musician) accompanied her on the flute – it was completely magical. Our exit song was My Delirium by Ladyhawke. To be honest it had no sentimental value, we just saw it on Emily’s repertoire and thought “that would be sick!”. Of course, we were so caught up in the moment we didn’t hear it at all. Right before we went into dinner, we asked Emily if she would mind playing a little bit of it again, just for us. We had the most beautiful little private concert in the garden, a dance, and an incredible moment to reconnect before making our grand entrance at dinner.
